Before we go any further please make sure that you place your vocabulary chart in the basket!
In the Practice portion of unit 1 we are going to spend some time learning about and identifying those parts of speech that we defined last night!
So, let's get started.

Step 5: Once do nows are completed and we have reviewed our definitions from yesterday, we are going to do a little reading. Follow along with me as I read the following passage from a short story you will read in Unit 3 called, The Necklace.

Reread the above passage
Work together to highlight all of the parts of speech that you can find. Once your team is done please raise your hand and close your fist.

Step 8: What did you learn? Many of you may have realized that every word that you encounter is... A PART OF SPEECH.
Step 9: Today's learning task
We are going to practice looking for the 8 parts of speech. Directions: Working in teams of two (and using your vocabulary chart if you need it) identify the underlined part of speech.
1. I left for school this morning and once I got there I realized that I left my backpack in the living room.
2. I hope that on Friday, even if it rains, my mom will still let us go to the movies.
3. He likes to sit by the window and feel the breeze.
4. They were talking so loud I could hardly hear Mrs. Moore.
5. I love anything that is red. In my opinion, red is the best color!
6. Man! All the boys do is sit and talk about football.
7. I can wait for my birthday. I am super excited!
8. I learned a lot about grammar in Mrs. Moore’s class.
9. I love to go shopping.
10. I am ready for the summer to get here so that I can sleep and relax.
